This role is ideal for a versatile, organized sound designer who is comfortable shifting between projects, adapting to different creative and technical requirements, and contributing wherever the team’s support is most valuable. Because this is a remote position, strong communication, reliability, and independent time management are essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, edit, and implement original sound effects for gameplay, cinematics, environments, interfaces, and other interactive content.
  • Support multiple projects that may have different creative directions, technical requirements, tools, and production schedules.
  • Collaborate effectively within a co-development environment, working with internal teams, clients, and external development partners.
  • Integrate into established project teams and adapt to their pipelines, documentation, naming conventions, and approval processes.
  • Take ownership of assigned audio features from initial concept through implementation, iteration, debugging, and final polish.
  • Balance priorities across multiple projects while communicating capacity, risks, dependencies, and progress clearly.
  • Participate in remote reviews, planning meetings, and collaborative work sessions across distributed teams.
  • Record and edit original source material when appropriate.
  • Implement and maintain audio using [Wwise / FMOD / proprietary tools] and [Unreal Engine / Unity / proprietary engine].
  • Test audio in context and refine it based on creative direction, gameplay needs, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Troubleshoot technical and implementation issues across supported platforms.
  • Maintain organized sessions, assets, documentation, and handoff materials.
  • Contribute ideas, provide constructive feedback, and help improve team workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Approximately 3–5 years of professional sound-design experience, ideally in games or another interactive medium.
  • Experience working in co-development, outsourcing, embedded development, or production-support environments.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate multiple projects and adjust to different teams, workflows, priorities, and creative styles.
  • A strong portfolio or demo reel demonstrating creative sound design, editing, mixing, and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with a professional digital audio workstation such as Pro Tools, Reaper, Nuendo, or equivalent.
  • Experience implementing audio in Wwise, FMOD, or a comparable audio engine.
  • Working knowledge of Unreal Engine, Unity, or another real-time development environment.
  • Understanding of interactive audio systems, mixing, signal flow, and asset optimization.
  • Ability to interpret creative direction and independently carry assigned work to completion.
  • Strong remote communication, documentation, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Comfort receiving direction from multiple stakeholders and knowing when to ask questions, raise concerns, or request clarification.
  • A collaborative, service-oriented mindset and openness to feedback.

Nice to Have

  • Experience contributing to several projects or development teams concurrently.
  • Experience onboarding quickly to existing projects and unfamiliar pipelines.
  • Field-recording, Foley, dialogue-editing, or synthesis experience.
  • Experience with music systems, procedural audio, spatial audio, or accessibility features.
  • Familiarity with version-control and project-management tools.
  • Experience shipping a game or comparable interactive project.
  • Basic scripting or visual-scripting knowledge.
  • Experience developing for PC, console, mobile, or VR.

What Success Looks Like

  • You build trust with internal teams and external partners through dependable, high-quality work.
  • You transition between projects without losing organization, context, or attention to detail.
  • You communicate clearly in a remote environment and proactively surface questions, risks, and scheduling conflicts.
  • You adapt your creative approach to support each project’s established audio direction.
  • You can work independently while remaining engaged with the larger team.
